Community Development Worker - TB, Viral Hepatitis and HIV

This is a great time to join the Leeds team in working towards ending transmission of Blood Born Viruses.

We require a part time Community Development Worker to accelerate progress toward Meeting Fast-Track Cities (FTC) 2030 goals for Most at Risk Populations (MARPs) in Leeds.

Prime Objectives (for full list, as well as main tasks and duties please refer to the Job description)  

• To undertake health promotion outreach work, reaching ‘Most at Risk populations’ (MARPs) in settings; virtual and physical, where MARPs meet. There will be an initial focus on unhoused individuals, rough sleepers, and specific migrant communities. Notably, data shows low engagement presently from people originating from China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Russia, and Vietnam

• Map and identify new venues/ events to reach MARPs; this may include community centres, supermarkets, restaurants, hair and nail salons and specialist employment agencies and cultural events. 

• Providing culturally appropriate information materials in relevant format and languages.

• Develop and support effective referral pathways to and from key partner agencies e.g. Leeds Community Hospital Trust’s TB service, York Street Practice, The Hepatitis C Trust. 

• To offer information, health resources and referrals, where possible and appropriate, to MARPs in a variety of settings; including over telephone, face to face and over internet. 

• To deliver appropriate health interventions including HIV & Syphilis point of care tests (POCT) to the target groups in community settings. To promote these services and monitor and evaluate them. To work in partnership with appropriate agencies to develop these services further.  

Salary: NJC scale 5 (points 18-22) starting at £31537 pro rata per annum for 15 hours per week. This is a fixed term 2 year employment contract. Salary is reviewed annually. There is a 5% workplace pension (on completion of probationary period). This post is subject to a Standard DBS check.
