Community Development Worker - Young People (Hull) 25 hours

Come and join our dynamic team in Hull where we have an exciting opportunity for a Community Development Worker to help us promote a positive sexual health message among young people across Hull.

Overall Aim:

  • To reduce the incidence of teen conceptions, STI infection and unsafe relationships between young people in Hull.

 

Prime Objectives:

  • To work with young people on a one to one basis, and in small groups, to provide support and learning around safer sex, prevention of teen conceptions, healthy relationships, consent, CSE, the grooming cycle and online safety.
  • To undertake outreach work, focusing on Young people in colleges, schools, community centres, youth centres, youth projects, and outreach to other settings that young people use.
  • To offer information and sexual health resources, including condoms and lube in a variety of settings, including over the telephone, face to face and over the internet.
  • To deliver appropriate community based sexual health interventions including HIV point of care tests (POCT) and chlamydia tests to the target groups in community settings.
  • To market these services, monitor and evaluate them.
  • To work in partnership, with appropriate agencies, to develop these services further.

 

Main Responsibilities & Duties (list not exhaustive – please refer to the job description and person specification for more details):

1. To assess needs in relation to safer sex and sexual health of Young people and higher risk sub-groups identified within this target group.

2. To develop ways of working around perceived, felt and expressed needs of Young people around safer sex, in conjunction with the Local Service Co-ordinator and other MESMAC Community Development Workers.

3. To provide relevant, accurate and accessible information focusing on the needs of Young people allowing them to make informed choices about their sexual health.

4. To develop a program of outreach work, in conjunction with MESMAC Community Development Workers, Sessional Outreach Workers and the Hull Local Service Co-ordinator.

 

Salary:  NJC scale points 18 – 22, starting at £31,537 pro rata per annum for 25 hours per week. Contract is fixed term until 31st March 2028 (with the possibility of an extension). There is a 5% workplace pension and membership of Paycare (on completion of probationary period). Salary is reviewed annually. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS with barred lists check.
