Working to support older LGBT people in Leeds.
Sage is a partnership project between Yorkshire MESMAC and AgeUK Leeds.
It addresses the social isolation faced by older LGBT people.
It is part of the Time to Shine programme.
It is led by Leeds Older People's Forum.
Sage socials are a chance to come along to the Leeds MESMAC office to spend time with other older LGBT people. Support to attend and buddying can be provided on request.
They take place on the first Thursday and the third Saturday of every month, from 12.30pm until 4pm, at Yorkshire MESMAC main meeting room, Blayd's Yard, Leeds.
Volunteers of all ages are welcomed and appreciated in the following roles:
- Buddying older LGBT people to support them to engage with the project and build confidence.
- Promotions volunteering to attend meetings and events, support the production and editing of the Sage newsletter, distribute the newsletter and resources to those without internet access, and improve digital engagement for those wishing to develop their internet skills.
Older (50+) volunteers are encouraged to contribute to the direction of the Sage project in both the above and the following roles:
- Joining the Steering Group to shape the direction of the project.
- Becoming a Community Speaker to inform interested organisations about the Sage project from the perspective of a member of the older LGBT community.
