Anti-Homophobic, Biphobic and Transphobic Bullying Project
This project is fully funded by the Department for Education and the Government Equalities Office to train schools across the country on recognising, preventing and tackling homo/bi/transphobic (HBT) bullying. At Yorkshire MESMAC, we are working to deliver this training across the Yorkshire and Humber region to any educational establishment for under 16s (including PRUs, SEN schools and primary schools). We are partnered with the LGBT Consortium and have an alliance of similar organisations delivering the same work throughout the country.
Alongside training delivery tailored to each school we engage with we are developing resources for schools which include lesson plans and easy to access factsheets which will be PSHE association accredited. Schools can engage in support from our partners in areas of expertise such as special educational needs, Child sexual exploitation, etc. Schools can also benefit from a peer support network matching schools with other educational staff around particular changes e.g. sensitively handling names changes for trans pupils.
At Yorkshire MESMAC, the training is developed and delivered by Rosie Ellingham, who has been working with LGBT+ young people for more than 5 years. She has experience of assisting schools to support LGBT+ young people in the form of running lunch time clubs and training staff. She has trained wide-ranging professionals including social workers and health professionals on LGBT+ awareness. Rosie currently runs an LGBT+ youth group in Bradford and supports LGBT+ young people on a 121 basis.
This project is funded until April 2019 and schools are able to sign up for a chance to be part of the programme until September 2018. If you think your school would benefit from this free and expert training, please contact Rosie on the details below.
