MESMAC Solidarity Statement

As Leeds Pride 2019 approaches, MESMAC would like to take this opportunity to discuss safety on the day. Pride is a wonderful event, that wouldn’t be possible without all of the hard work from so many people within the LGBT+ community in Leeds. Every member of the LGBT+ community should have the opportunity to celebrate safely, without threat or fear or violence.

If any users of the MESMAC service feel unsafe at any point, or see anything which may be seen as homophobic, biphobic or transphobic, you can:

Find an official steward who have been trained to respond to issues appropriately

  • Go to the Cosmopolitan where the lead steward and other members of the pride committee will be available to talk to throughout the day
  • Find us and inform our staff

Please do not engage with people who are threatening, or showing homo/bi/trans phobic views. There are people who have been trained to respond to these situations, please talk to someone and alert them of the situation.

MESMAC stands in solidarity with all LGBT+ people and we look forward to marching with you on the 4th August.
