This is a Forum Central event, supported by Leeds Survivor Led Crisis Service (LSLCS) and Yorkshire MESMAC.

Research by the LGBT+ Mapping Project has found that mental health a priority concern for LGBT+ people in Leeds and that 90% of LGBT+ survey respondents had experienced difficulties with their mental health. In response to this, and to mark World Mental Health Day, this event will bring people together to discuss how we can respond collectively to the mental health needs LGBT+ communities in Leeds.

The event will be chaired by Tom Doyle from Yorkshire MESMAC.

There will be presentations from local services and community groups to pose questions, share learning and knowledge on LGBT+ mental health. This will include LSLCS, South Leeds Community Mental Health Team and Trans Leeds among others.

The event will feature training from Ellie Rogers from Leeds GATE (Gypsy and Traveller Exchange) where you can learn about their ‘Roads, Bridges and Tunnels’ tool for mapping marginalised groups relationships to other communities and services. The ‘Roads, Bridges and Tunnels’ tool had recently adopted by the LGBT Foundation for their research on the assets and needs on the trans community in the UK.

In the afternoon there will be facilitated table discussions using the framework of ‘Roads, Bridges and Tunnels’ to map the challenges, assets and barriers experienced by LGBT+ communities in Leeds when accessing support around their mental health and wellbeing.

Lunch will be provided

Who this event is for? This event is for mental health services from the statutory and third sectors, commissioners, LGBT+ groups and community members as well as organisations and individuals working on health and wellbeing in Leeds.
