How to access training! Free to community groups!

The Our Project is a Bradford based community service working with people living with HIV. The focus of the project is to offer a quality service to all people living with HIV or AIDS in the Bradford Metropolitan District.

We aim to:

The Our Project is funded by Bradford Social Services.

What is covered within Training?

Bespoke training, tailored to each organisation

If training is requested by an organisation, the Our Project staff member will agree with the person making the request what topics in relation to HIV will be covered. The training agreement might contain specific issues like, confidentiality, basic biology and transmission, experiences of living with HIV, attitudes about people living with HIV etc.

Is the training free?

Participants that attend advertised training days called “Transmitting Facts” are require to pay a nominal charge of £20. Payments must be made fourteen days before attending the course. After any incurred training costs are deducted from the payments received, such as advertising or resources, the reminder is placed into our welfare grant. Service users who are facing extreme financial hardship can apply to this grant.

There are also a number of free places available to individuals who would like to attend the training but are unable to pay. Free places are offered on a first come first served basis.

Who can apply for the training?

Pre advertised training days such as “Transmitting Facts” usually last at least one full day and are targeted at the voluntary sector. This is because our colleagues at the Bradford Health Development Partnership (BHDP) provide training specifically directed to staff within the statutory sector. Employees from the statutory sector are welcome to attend our training if they are unable to attend the training days available to them via BHDP.

A certificate of attendance can be provided on request on completion of training. Participants must stay for the agreed duration of the course in order to receive a certificate.

Can you provide training to staff teams?

Yes, we can provide training to staff teams. This can be arranged by agreeing what you would like us to cover within the training and by agreeing a date. The Our Project staff team is made up of two staff members. Requests for training will therefore require some flexibility as workers within the Our Project also have the needs of service users to consider.

The cost of staff team training is £50 for a maximum 3hr training session or £100 for a full day. At this rate you will need to provide a suitable training environment. If your organisation does not have a room suitable to deliver training in or have access to a training room elsewhere, we can book rooms at suitable venues. Training venues such as Bradford Teaching Hospital and Bradford Resource Centre may have rooms available to book.

Previously, some organisations have linked with other organisations in order to share the cost and increase the variety of experiences that can be shared on the day. The maximum number of participants on any of our courses is twenty.

We are sometimes able to offer free training courses to voluntary groups or as an introductory training session. In addition, we are always willing to offer informal guidance to anyone one wishes to deliver there own training.

Where does the money go?

Any income generated by delivering training is directed by the project into the Our Welfare Grant Scheme. This grant scheme is available to people on a low income living with HIV or AIDS within the Bradford District. This includes people who are currently seeking asylum who are often living well below the poverty threshold. The majority of grant requests accepted and administered through this grant scheme are for food, clothing and basic living requirements.

Our Facilitator

The Facilitator of our courses has gained many valuable years of experience whilst working within the HIV sector and is an accredited Trainer. Evaluation of previous courses has been excellent, highlighting that content, approach and facilitation has enabled the outcomes of the course to be fully met by participants. The courses delivered by staff at the Our Project are designed to be interactive.

We can also offer the input of a speaker from the Positive Speaker Project, a joint training venture between the Our project and Begin (a support project in Wakefield) that enables people living with HIV to be involved in training.
