Yorkshire MESMAC Announces New Patrons
Yorkshire MESMAC are delighted that Baroness Gould of Potternewton, or Joyce to everyone who knows her has agreed to become a Patron of the Charity. Born and bred in Leeds and educated at what is now Bradford University, Joyce has had a distinguished and varied career that has included being a dispenser, trade unionist and politician. Amongst her many other achievements, Joyce is the Chair of the Independent Advisory Group on Sexual Health and HIV, the body charged with monitoring and advising Government on The National Sexual Health and HIV Strategy.
Baroness Gould, said, ‘As a Yorkshire person myself, I am delighted to be supporting the work of Yorkshire MESMAC, I especially welcome the fact that as a group of services it works not only in the densely populated but also the most deeply rural parts of Yorkshire, recognising that HIV has broken out of the large cites and now affects all our communities.’
Tom Doyle, Director of Yorkshire MESMAC said, ‘To have a Patron of the calibre of Joyce is a massive boon to the group of services, she is well known as a woman of huge intellect, and as a doughty fighter for those causes she feels strongly about, not least of which has been HIV and sexual health.’
Also throwing his considerable talent behind the work of Yorkshire MESMAC is Emmerdale’s heartthrob Mathew Bose. Mathew has been a long time supporter of events and charities that support LGBT communities and that raise money for people living with HIV.
‘As a gay man myself living and working in Yorkshire I know how important it is for services like Yorkshire MESMAC to exist ensuring that we all have the knowledge skills and resources we need to make informed choices about our sexual health’, said Mathew.
Tom said ‘Mathew is a talented actor with a large following mainly because he has played and portrayed his gay character in Emmerdale in a truthful, sensitive and positive way. I know that for many, in particular young LGBT people that our services work with he, is a role model.’
