Working with the Police
Yorkshire MESMAC works closely with the police in Leeds to help ensure that victims of homophobically motivated crimes are treated in a sensitive, supportive and appropriate way. We do this in a number of different ways; through training officers, briefing Police Community Support Officers and sitting on Lay panels, which review the investigations into Homophobic Hate Crime. The Hate Crime Co-ordinators from across Leeds regularly meet with Yorkshire MESMAC staff to help to continue to provide and improve services for the LGB community. If you wish to talk to a member of Yorkshire MESMAC staff about any problems or questions you may have about dealing with West Yorkshire Police in Leeds please contact the Leeds Office. [top]
Hate Incident Reporting
Yorkshire MESMAC in Leeds is also a Hate Incident Reporting Centre – this is a third party reporting scheme which gives the opportunity to report a crime without visiting or contacting the police directly. You can report anonymously so that you can make West Yorkshire Police aware of incidents, this enables West Yorkshire police to target resources into areas where there are problems.
There
are 100 Hate Incident Reporting Centres in the Leeds area and
they take reports for Homophobic and Racist Hate Crime, these
centres all display the logo on the left.
