Rural Men's Group
North Yorkshire is a huge geographical area, and the lack of focussed scene or openly supportive venues means that guys can often experience isolation; or just a distinct lack of contact with other gay or bisexual men. Yorkshire MESMAC is keen to support groups throughout the more rural areas of the county, which provide an opportunity for men to get together in an open and safe environment. There is currently a group that meets in Northallerton on a Tuesday evening every 2 – 3 weeks. Get in touch of you would like to come along; or if you feel we could support a group in your area. Contact Yorkshire MESMAC (North Yorkshire Office) for details. [top]
SGLBT - Young LGBTQ people in Scarborough

The group meets fortnightly in a safe central Scarborough location to provide socialising and support for LGBT people under the age of 25. In the future months they have sexual health sessions planned including the development of resources to benefit other young people in the coast and moors areas. Also the group have received some money because of their work evaluating some youth work resources and are planning a group trip or meal….

Youth Groups in North Yorkshire
Following the success of the Yorkshire MESMAC’s LGBTQ youth groups in Bradford, Wakefield, Skipton and Scarborough north Yorkshire are getting two more!
Jan 20 th saw the start of a youth group in Selby whilst a new group in Harrogate will start a week later. Both groups are for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans people and those young people who are questioning their sexual orientation (LGBTQ). These groups will cater for LGBTQ young people aged 13 – 25yrs, providing safe places for support and socialising.
Ellen Hill ; LGBT youth worker for North Yorkshire, said, ‘it’s exciting to be able to take these services out to the towns in North Yorkshire since it’s often very difficult for young people to travel to larger cities for a group. I’m looking forward to meeting and working with young people in their local areas very soon’.
The groups will take part in various activities such as t-shirt making, film nights, de-stressing workshops, debates and bullying focus groups. This will all happen on Wednesday evenings between 6pm and 8pm in confidential venues in the centre of Selby or Harrogate.
There will also be chances for the groups to meet up with the other LGBT youth groups on day trips, residentials and at prides. Please get in touch if you want to know more.
